CANMORE – The Canmore Eagles new logo has landed.

The junior A hockey club revealed its modernized logo for the upcoming 2019-20 season and the team’s 25th anniversary on Monday (June 24), which incorporates an iconic mountain range and acknowledges the team’s home on Treaty 7 territory.

The design highlights the fierce facial features of an eagle – coloured white, silver, royal blue and Oxford blue – but a second look showcases more symbolic features.

“The Three Sisters [mountain range is] along the bottom and in the neck of the eagle, there is a number seven, including seven feathers on the neck, to represent Treaty 7 as part of the reconciliation, we thought was important to incorporate into our logo,” said Jacqueline Hurlbert, Eagles Director of Business Operations and Community Relations. “And then of course, the C that comes around, instead of a full circle [around the eagles head] it’s a C to represent Canmore.”

Canmore Eagles Junior “A” Hockey Club is in white uppercase letters circling the eagle over an Oxford blue background with silver trim.

The new logo, which was made by 54 Blue, a trade marketing company in Calgary, came from the suggestions the Bow Valley community put forward last March.

“We started out with this grandiose idea that we were going to incorporate everything and we had to step back and be like that’s a very intricate logo, probably scale it down and make it more simple,” Hurlbert said.

The previous Eagles logo was of the iconic bird with its wings spread, using its talons to snap a hockey stick in half. It was coloured white and blue and yellow. For the most part, the logo remained the same for 25 years.

The Canmore Minor Hockey Association (CMHA) shared the same emblem as the junior A club’s previous logo and CMHA president Michael Hay spoke to the jersey situation at the exclusive unveiling at the Canmore Golf and Curling Club.

“As we move forward with our jerseys and our program we will facilitate and adapt that new jersey,” Hay said. “What that looks like at this point, we don’t know, we are on a time constraint and you can imagine flipping 300 plus minor hockey players over night is not going to happen, but we are happy to work with the Eagles to promote the new logo and promote them moving forward.”
