CANMORE – A new goalie is set to debut with the Canmore Eagles after the junior A team shook up its roster with a trade last weekend.

The Eagles claimed 19-year-old goalie Kadin Kilpatrick from the free agent market after sending veteran netminder Logan Dyck, to the Notre Dame Hounds of the Saskatchewan Junior A Hockey League (SJHL) for future considerations last Saturday (Oct. 12).

Kilpatrick, a native of Winnipeg, spent last season with the Estevan Bruins of the SJHL where he was 10-3 with a 2.67 goals against average and .887 save percentage.

He’s pretty hungry to start with the club this weekend, said Andrew Milne, Eagles head coach and general manager.

“We knew he was available and we did some homework and chose to go with him,” said Milne. “He was the odd man out [in his situation in Estevan], but he’s a good goalie and he’s pretty hungry.”

In six AJHL starts in 2019-20, Dyck, 19, was 2-4 with an .840 save percentage and 4.79 goals against average.

In a Twitter post from the Hounds, Dyck said: “I’m super excited to get started with the club. It seems like a great organization, and I’m ready to step in and help the team win right away.”

The Hounds identified the veteran netminder as someone they wanted, Milne said.

“Logan had an opportunity in net, but things got a bit stale and he wasn’t necessarily the goalie he can be,” said Andrew Milne, Eagles head coach and general manager. “The best thing for the hockey club is bringing in someone younger and that’s the direction we want to go in.”

Eagles rookie goalie, Devin Chapman, 18, has stepped up as the team’s only netminder since Saturday. In six games this season, Chapman is 2-3 with an .875 save percentage and 4.01 goals against average.

Up next, the Eagles are on a three-game northern swing starting Friday (Oct. 18) in Drayton Valley against the Thunder.

On Wednesday (Oct. 23), the Eagles are scheduled to debut at the newly renovated Alex Kaleta Arena inside the Canmore Rec Centre. Puck drop is 7 p.m. against the Drumheller Dragons.
