Runners take on 50-km Grizzly Ultra Marathon

Runners take on 50-km of mountain trails in Sunday's Grizzly Ultra Marathon.

CANMORE - Cross-country runners took on 50 kilometres of mountain trails at Sunday's (Oct. 13) 2019 Grizzly Ultra Marathon at the Canmore Nordic Centre.

Calgary's Brad Buxton finished first overall in the solo marathon at a time of 4:13:09.8. Wade Russell of Edmonton finished second and Toronto's Alex Cutulenco finished third. The top local was Justin Di Poce, finishing fourth overall.

Locals rounding out the top 25 were Canmore's Chris Sheremata (10), Adrien Winters (13), Bryan Lukeman (20), and Exshaw's Wayne Gaudet (23).

The top finishing local woman was Faye Baldock in 28th overall and fifth among women.

Standout Local Results

In the co-ed team of two relay, Canmore's Easier Said Than Run, Kris Irwin and Sherri Castiglione, finished third overall. In fourth was Canmore team My Pace Or Yours?, consisting of Tom Wisener and Heather MacPherson, and Canmore's ElliLeo's Luc Drolet and Isabel Morin finished sixth.

In the women's team of two relay, Banff Soul Sistas, Jessica McNally and Amber Wanless, finished fourth overall, and Canmore's Sweaty Girls Rock team of Morgan Rogers and Daena Sidney were seventh.

In the women's team of five relay, finishing in fifth was Canmore's All in the Hips, consisting of Tara Van Kessel, Grace Estelle Curley, Mallory Kosterski, Meggan Dube and Chantel Weinhandl.

In the men's team of five relay, finishing sixth was Canmore's Shut up Legs' Antar Fuentes, Cesar Fuentes-Ortega and Pieter van Niekerk.

In the co-ed team of five relay, finishing fifth was Canmore's We Got The Runs team of Ryan Gardner, Sierra Ross, Michael Holmes, Greg Kozicky and Cassidy Gardner. In ninth was Canmore's Strides Five's Kylie McKendrick, Lyen Lau, Dave Aschim, Grace Smith and Paul McKendrick.
