UPDATE: Residents evacuated from area near wildfire along Highway 1A

As of 4:41 p.m., Cochrane RCMP estimated it would take two to three hours for Highway 1A to reopen after a grass fire near the Wildcat Hills Gas Plant caused reduced visibility in the area.

ROCKY VIEW COUNTY – Residents near the wildfire located west of Cochrane are being evacuated from the area.

Fire crews continue to battle the blaze near Highway 1A between the Wildcat Hills Gas Plant and Ghost Station Gas Bar.

Cochrane RCMP is on scene assisting the Rocky View Fire Department.

A press release issued by the RCMP at 4:41 p.m. said both directions of traffic on Highway 1A will be blocked for the next two to three hours.

Highway 1A is not directly impacted by the fire although smoke from the fire is affecting visibility. Motorists are asked to slow down if they encounter areas with reduced visibility due to the smoke.
