The community is bursting with pride after hearing Canmore-raised actor, Crystal Balint, has been nominated for a Leo Award.
Balint’s mother took to Facebook posting on a local group that her daughter has been nominated for best actress in the B.C.-based award ceremonies.
“So proud. Crystal has been nominated for a Leo award for best actress in a drama series,” Judy Balint Muenchrath wrote.
Balint is one of four leading characters in the TV series the Bletchley Circle: San Francisco; which airs on CityTV in Canada, ITV in the U.K. and Britbox in the U.S.
In a previous interview with the Outlook, Balint said she fell in love with the character she currently plays on the show, Iris Bearden.
Bearden is a 1950s woman living in San Fransisco who used to work as a cryptographer in the Second World War.
“I was really drawn to the character. I was immediately excited about it and knew about the original series,” she said.
Balint attended Canmore Collegiate High School (CCHS) and studied performing arts extensively.
The Leo Awards is a British Columbia-based awards program that aims to celebrate excellence in film and television.
Balint is nominated for best lead performance female in a dramatic series for the second episode of the first series called “Wake. “
The award-winner will be announced at the Gala Awards on June 1 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Vancouver, B.C.
