CANMORE – Canmore Collegiate High School (CCHS) is celebrating their concert and jazz bands after each received a third place award with silver distinction for their performances at a recent festival.

The bands were competing for the first time at the WorldStrides Seattle Heritage Music Festival in Seattle alongside bands from places such as Oregon, Washington, Alaska and British Columbia.

CCHS student Daniel Brett, tenor sax player for the jazz ensemble, was also awarded the Maestro award. Brett is one of 12 students to win the award at the festival, which features performances by more than 680 students.

In a press release, CCHS band director Susan Gerrior said the band has been working hard and has a lot of talent.

“It’s always great to be able to perform at a large festival that draws on such a diversity of music and students,” she said in the release.

The award-winning bands will have their final performance at 7 p.m. on Thursday (May 23) at the CCHS Auditorium. The event is free to attend.
