CANMORE – Art is about to get competitive at artsPlace with Creative Combat.

The popular event pits 12 artists against each other, with 20 minutes to create a work of art so they can move on to the final round.

“Creative combat is a high energy, exciting event that people in the Bow Valley love. The tickets sell fast. It is fun and exciting,” said Becky Lipton Fournier, fund development manager for artsPlace. “This is the eighth Creative Combat and it's always something different. This year we have a number of new artists and a few of the favourites coming back.”

The artists all compete to make it to the final round. After completing their work, attendees vote and the top four make it to the final round where they paint another piece of art in 20 minutes.

“Those artworks go into the silent auction so people can bid on them and take them home,” Fournier said. “It's so cool to watch someone create the art in 20 minutes.”

Events such as Creative Combat are essential to artsPlace as a fundraiser to help keep the organization showcasing art in the Bow Valley.

“Our ability to offer affordable and high-quality programs depends on events like this. We really appreciate the community support.”

There are two other fundraisers running. The silent auction has a wide assortment of items, including trips and jewelry to bid on, and a raffle that has an excellent prize for the winner.

“The other thing we have happening right now is a raffle, which is a dream trip to the Yukon worth $4,000. It gives you a round-trip, six-night stay tour. It is an exciting trip,” said Fournier.

The live event is a glam night out with food, cocktails, a DJ and a fun arts vibe. Those preferring to take part from home, can do so through the couch party. A virtul link will be provided.

Running on Nov. 19, doors open at 6 p.m., with everything kicking off at 6:30. Tickets are $85 each, or $20 for the 7 p.m. couch party.

Visit www.artsplacecanmore.com for more information or to bid in the silent auction and buy tickets for the raffle.
