Play's The Thing features four-in-one

Four plays for the price on one – could there be a better deal for local theatre goers? Not likely, which is why this weekend (April 26-28) Pine Tree Players’ production of The Play’s The Thing at the Canmore Miners’ Union Hall is a must-see.

Four plays for the price on one – could there be a better deal for local theatre goers?

Not likely, which is why this weekend (April 26-28) Pine Tree Players’ production of The Play’s The Thing at the Canmore Miners’ Union Hall is a must-see.

The Play’s The Thing features four one-act plays which were recently staged in the Foothills Region One Act Play Festival in High River.

The four one-act plays include: Trouble is Just a Bubble by Sheldon Oberman; When Shakespeare’s Ladies Meet by Charles George; Elegy for a Lady by Arthur Miller and Babels in Arms by David Ives.

According to PTP, Trouble is Just a Bubble, directed by Anita Szabo, relates to a young train porter impressed by the glamourous spirit of an elderly womn who is supposedly travelling to meet her new husband. He doesn’t realize, though, that she is escaping dark secrets even as she helps in untangle his own troubled relationship.

Trouble features actors Elizabeth Green, Adam Zeimer and Martin Finnerty.

When Shakespeare’s Ladies Meet, directed by Louise Shore (who won the outstanding director award at the High River festival), captures the fun which occurs when six of the Bard’s heroines get together to discuss the universal topic: love. The ladies are Codie Reed, Candise McMullin, Chezlene Kocian, Nina St. James, Lauren Kepkiewicz and Janet Kundert.

In Elegy for a Lady, directed by Joe Morris, a man enters a boutique and discusses with the propietor what might be an appropriate gift for his ailing lover. Simon Steels and Jodie Russell perform in Elegy.

Babels in Arms, directed by Lawrence Hutchings, is about two Mesopotamian blue-collar workers forced to build the tower of Babel. Babels features Gerry McAuley, Luke Benson, Pam Milthorp, Candise McMullin and Hutchings, himself.

Tickets are $20 and available at Second Story Books (713 Main St., Canmore) and Boulder Men’s Wear (802 Main St., Canmore and Cascade Plaza, Banff) and at the door.
