Hike for Hospice by the Palliative Care Society of the Bow Valley

Put those feet in some hiking boots this Sunday (May 5) and do it for a good cause.

The Palliative Care Society of the Bow Valley is hosting a hike to raise funds for Hospice Palliative Care.

Hikers are welcome to walk, stroll, or wheel in this accessible fundraising event with a five-km, or three-km option.

Participants will meet at Elevation Place in Canmore at noon, but on-site registrants should come around 11 a.m.

Get there early because there’s a free T-shirt for the first 100 hikers. The fee is $10 per person with children under six walking for free. You can find registration forms at Elevation Place, Shoppers Drugmart or Origin at Spring Creek.

Alternatively, you can visit chpca.convio.net/PalliativeCareSocietyBowValley.

Canmore Cani-Cross by the Snowy Owl Sled Dog tours and Running Room

Feeling a little husky after the winter months?

The Canmore Cani-Cross coming up this Sunday (May 5) is a good way to kick off a new fitness routine.

A cani-cross is a running race where you are pulled by one or two dogs running in front of you, so of course, participants are allowed to bring up to two of their canine companions.

With funds raised going to the Canadian Coalition for Sled Dogs, the race will also yield some pretty neat prizes like a helicopter trip for two from Alpine Helicopters.

The race will start at Millennium Park in Canmore at 9 a.m. and you’ll be running in rain, snow, or shine.

The registration fee is $35 per person but there is a limit of 75 runners so you should move fast. For more information visit www.runningroom.com.

Pottery-Palooza by artsPlace

It’s a good time to play with some clay and also to give back to the wonderful local arts community.

From a ceramics workshop where you’ll get to make some herb pots with red clay, to purchasing some artwork from the Art Market, to a family playroom where kids can play with slime-like clay, artsPlace in Canmore has a full-day of pottery fun planned.

Happening on May 18, each aspect of the day is a tad different in terms of cost. The Art Market is open to the public, where as the ceramics workshop is $40 per person, including materials.

The family playroom is on a donation, drop-in basis, though $10 is suggested for entry.

As a registered charity, all the proceeds will go to covering the cost of programming artsPlace puts on.

While it is a fundraiser, the facility wants to emphasize that this is a community-focused outreach initiative. For more information on Pottery-Palooza workshops, visit www.artsplacecanmore.com.
