Elinor (Elli) Stabile
August 5, 1939 - December 26, 2021
Wife, Mother, Sister and Friend to all who knew her. Elinor Grace Stabile passed away peacefully on December 26, 2021. After 82 years, her work here was complete and she will be missed dearly.
Elli moved to Canmore from Richmond, British Columbia in the winter of 1974 with her loving husband Louis Stabile and her children Grant, Kelly, Terry, Glenn, and Darren.
In the early 1970’s Canmore was a bustling mining community with wooden sidewalks and gravel streets. Elli always had an eye for fashion and made quite a splash walking down main street in her hot pants, Go Go boots and her long dark black hair with five kids in tow.
One of Elli’s many gifts was making you feel that you were the most important person in the room. Her infectious smile and “gift of gab” truly put everyone at ease. It was only natural that she and her husband Lou opened ‘The Canmore Hair Salon’ better known today as ‘Elli’s Hair West’ just three weeks after arriving in town.
“Elli’s” quickly became a ‘Hot Spot’ for locals to get their hair done and a great place to grab a coffee and share a story or two.
One day in particular a beautiful young customer sat in Elli’s chair for a haircut and she said “Elli, I was never more happier than when you came to town. Everyone stopped talking about me and started talking about you!”
Elli had a passion for painting water colours and each week she spent time with her dearest friends creating art that brought so much joy to her and the lucky people who have it hanging in their homes.
Elli was an only child who was adopted into a loving family. When her parents (Wesley and Bess Glenn) passed away, Elli went on a search for her biological mother (Dorothy MacAskill) and father (Grey Eaton). In doing so, she discovered that she had three half-sisters and two half-brothers on her mother’s side and a half-brother on her father’s side. In an instant Elli had the extended family she always desired, which brought her many years of family fun and enjoyment.
Elli is survived by her husband Louis Stabile, her children, Grant (Julie), Kelly (Chris), Terry (Chris), Glenn (Luan), Darren (Kesa), Michele (Russ), brothers Phil (Charlene), Norm (Lorraine),sisters, Sylvia and Priscilla, grandchildren Mackenzie, Alessandra, Sara, Jared, Wyatt, Hendrix, Poppy, Nora and great grandchild Simeon.
Elli was predeceased by both sets of her parents, step father Willis, and her sister Sharon.
