Hilda Slavin

On March 14, 2022 – just weeks shy of her 91st birthday, Hilda Marie Slavin passed away suddenly but peacefully, at her residence in Calgary. Born and raised in Montreal, she married Pat in 1952 and together went on to raise six of their own children – Cathy Snair (Bob); Ken (Jen); Val Thompson (Greg); Ted (Chris); Peter (Karen) and Grant (Maiysha).  After living in Rosemere, QC, then in Oakville and Keene, ON.,  Hilda and Pat moved to Canmore in 1993 to be closer to family. In Canmore Hilda could be found on the golf course, at the bridge table, volunteering at local cross-country ski and community events and looking after her grandchildren and their neighborhood friends. In her later years, Hilda was known as an advocate for the residents of the Bow River Senior’s Lodge, where she brought “light, wisdom, humour and love” to everyone she met.

Hilda was blessed to have 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She doted on each and every one. Hilda was pre-deceased by husband Pat, grandson Peter (Thompson) and daughter-in-law Maiysha (Glaude).

Hilda genuinely appreciated the generous and professional assistance she received from her health care providers over the years - including Dr. G. Duggleby, Dr. B Hone, the staff at the Canmore General Hospital, and the many physiotherapists, OT’s, pharmacists, home care workers and ambulance drivers (!), who always went beyond the call of duty. She was especially appreciative of the staff at the Bow Valley Senior’s Lodge and at Cambridge Manor in Calgary. While it takes a village to raise a child, it takes an equally compassionate community to care for the aging.

Hilda’s family will gather at a later date to honor an amazing lady and a life well lived.
