Mel Ferrari

    Jan. 12, 1928 – July 9, 2022

Magnhild "Mel" Lorraine Ferrari (nee Peterson).  passed peacefully in the presence of family at the Canmore Hospital.  Mel was born and raised near Shaunavon, Sask. to Peter and Mary (Coutts) Peterson.

Ever the athletic farm girl, she met her husband Al on the ski hill in Banff and together they raised four boys, Mark, Peter, Lee & Guy.

As a busy mom, she held down a full-time job, and always maintained an immaculate home. Mel loved nothing more than being in a room full of family and friends; she loved a good party, and she loved her golf.

Well read and well spoken, she never let a thought go unsaid, not always her best quality, but always entertaining.

A true character, heaven just got a personality upgrade. We will miss her crossword skills, her trashy novels, and the sound of ice cubes clinking in her mug of mediocre wine.

Predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Alexander Vincent Ferrari, brothers Arnt and Alex Peterson and sister Euleine Peterson. Mel is survived by her sister Valerie Morstad, four sons: Mark (Janice), Peter (Marilyn), Lee (Brenda) and Guy (Monica), six grandchildren and ten nieces and nephews.

A longtime resident of Banff, Mel leaves behind many friends from the community and the Banff Springs Golf Club. The family would like to thank Mel’s former caregiver, Auriana Gowalko, the wonderful and caring staff of Origin at Spring Creek, Dr. Elisabeth Brodeur, and the doctors and nurses at the Canmore hospital for their compassion and care.

Memorial service to be announced for the fall.
