Sydney Fenna

1933 - 2022

Sydney Elizabeth Fenna, of Canmore, Alberta, passed away on July 10, surrounded by her loving family.

Sydney Ross was born in Edmonton on March 30, 1933. She lived a long life and was predeceased by her first husband Bob Turner and second husband Don Fenna.

Sydney studied anthropology, which motivated her and Bob to take an extensive journey to the Middle East in 1965, the first of many voyages abroad.  Following this pivotal experience, she went back to university to study education. She then became an ESL teacher and taught science as well at Talmud Torah in Edmonton, where she lived until moving to Canmore in 2000.

Sydney was charming and generous. She was a life-long learner who valued culture, art, science, and nature.  Through her distinguished strength and good-natured humor, she inspired many friends and family to be adventurous, determined, and hard working. She surrounded herself with beauty and instilled her deep love of the Rocky Mountains in all her descendants.

She will be fondly remembered by her children Bob Turner (Carina), Robin Turner (Stephen Carruthers), and Janet Steele (Jeff), her nine grandchildren and one great granddaughter, and her brother David Ross (Janet)

Her family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful doctors and nurses at the Canmore Hospital, as well as the residents and staff at Origin Seniors center, who were great company to Sydney in her later years. A party in her honour will be held at a future date.
