Races damaged wet trails

Editor,

This letter is to state my disapproval of the Canmore Nordic Centre’s decision to run not one, but two different races at their facility this past weekend. While the rest of town was under flood watch, the CNC went ahead with plans to run races on a course that was already damaged due to extensive flooding. I was signed up for the Cyclemeisters five hour Organ Grinder Enduro, but couldn’t justify riding my bike on rain and snow soaked trails for five hours, knowing the kind of damage this can cause. When I spoke to the race organizer I was met with a shrug of his shoulders and comments of “oh, well”.

Does the CNC have any sort of policy in regards to extreme weather, and what are we as local citizens to do when race organizers ditch the rulebook on trail use etiquette when dollars and podium placing is at stake?
