With the final provincial election candidate forum having taken place on Monday (April 27) and with the leaders’ televised debate now over with, we’ll again encourage Bow Valley citizens to get out and vote on Tuesday (May 5).

If Monday’s (April 20) election forum at Banff Park Lodge was any indication, voters are again showing that their Give-A-Crap metre is barely registering. That’s scary, not to mention very disappointing.

In advance of a possible outburst against it, we’ll congratulate Banff town council on going ahead with the trial of a woonerf system for Bear Street.

So, despite the fact we already have a fixed date in 2016 set for our next provincial election, the Prentice PCs are going to subject us to another one, ASAP (May 5).

Now Alberta taxpayers know how our Progressive Conservative government will counter a multibillion dollar deficit caused by setting budgets based on a commodity like oil that features wildly fluctuating values – they get to do it themselves.

So now we all know Alberta’s PC government is going to do things differently in the future – and all it cost us to find out the new direction was $100,000 for a televised address.

We realize the wonders of technology have caused sweeping changes in the way people communicate with each other. Phones, email, texting, social media programs, etc. allow many people to keep in touch 24/7.

It’s interesting, and no surprise, we surmise, that there is confusion, animosity and some support in regard to Canmore Business and Tourism recommending increases to business licence registry fees.

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

While eyebrows may have been raised by Canmore council members when it was revealed the town’s recycled plastics are being shipped all the way to China, our eyebrows were raised when we noted the relatively low waste diversion numbers.
