Local father-daughter pottery duo Katie Borrowman and John Borrowman have moved ‘of Cabbages & Kings Pottery’ to their new location at 711 Spring Creek Drive. John, a potter since 1974, opened this pottery studio in 1991. His daughter, Katie, joined him as a full-time potter in 2005, and has now assumed the lead role.
of Cabbages & Kings Pottery has been a fixture in the Canmore Arts community for 30 years, and they are excited to welcome both familiar faces and new visitors to their fresh space.
New Location Allows for Easier Access
The new location gives visitors to of Cabbages & Kings Pottery easier access. “We are now located at 711 Spring Creek Drive, which is an exciting new location and much more pedestrian friendly than our last location.” says Katie.
In celebration of their new space, as well as their 30th anniversary, of Cabbages & Kings produced 100 special edition logo mugs. They are donating 15% of the sales of this special series to the local Rotary Covid Relief Fund.
Producing Beautiful Pieces Still the Heart of the Studio
Though their location has changed, the commitment that Katie and John have to producing handmade, uniquely beautiful pieces has not. The distinctive and functional pottery design found at of Cabbage & Kings Pottery appeals to both visitors and local community members.
“We have created several items and styles of work that appeal to many people,” explains Katie. “We make a wide selection of colourful and uniquely functional items such as travel mugs, bowls and mugs of all sizes, dinner sets, casseroles and teapots. We are happy to take customer orders large or small.”
People gravitate towards the Rocky Mountain-inspired designs that Katie and John do so well.
Looking Forward
of Cabbages & Kings continues to be a large supporter of local charity events. For the past 12 years, they have made bowls for the Mountain Grannies Chilly Bowl Dinner. They have also started an annual fundraising workshop for Hope for Kids, which they hope to continue once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
The new location also adds an exciting challenge for of Cabbage & Kings Pottery. According to Katie, the new space affords them many creative opportunities. “We will be fine-tuning our regular production while adding some fun new ideas.” she says.
of Cabbage & Kings Pottery has been able to grow, even in the extremely difficult economy caused by the pandemic. “We want to send a big thank you to everyone who has continued to support us through these crazy times!” says Katie.
