STONEY NAKODA – Bearspaw residents will be heading to the election polls on Thursday (Dec. 5), as band members have a chance to have their voice heard by voting in the 2019 Chief and council.

With three-nation members running for Chief and 22 running for council, residents can cast their ballot between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the Morley Bearspaw Youth Centre, located in the Morley townsite or at the Eden Valley School Annex.

Bearspaw is part of the three-band Stoney Nakoda Nation, between Canmore and Calgary, which all have a Chief and council representatives for the approximately 5,000 populated nation.

Residents can have their say between currently elected Darcy Dixon, David Jr Bearspaw, or Lenny Wesley for Chief and can elect up to four councillors with two representatives for Eden Valley and two for Morley.

Bearspaw members running for the Morley seats are Anthony Bearspaw, Lewis Twoyoungmen, Dacster Amos, Roderick Hunter, Trevor Wesley, Levi Bearspaw, Debra Dixon, Christopher Twoyoungmen, Johnny Ear, Carver Salter, Jonah Daniels, and Monte Labelle. And residents will also have a say between Buddie Dixon, Lionel Crow, Philomena Stephens, Pierre Lefthand, Rex Daniels, Keith Lefthand, Larry Daniels, Dell Rider, Clifford Jimmy John and Bryon Dixon for the two Eden Valley seats.

Elections results are expected to be announced on Thursday evening.

Any appeals for the Bearspaw election must be made in writing to Chief Electoral Officer Marvin Yellow Horn by Jan. 6, 2020 by 4 p.m.
