Stoney Nakoda woman killed in hit-and-run, suspect charged

STONEY NAKODA – A 40-year-old Stoney Nakoda woman is dead after being hit by a vehicle within the Morley townsite Friday (Jan. 3). 

According to a Cochrane RCMP press release, police received a complaint of a pedestrian hit-and-run and when they arrived to the location of the collision on Morley Road they discovered a 40-year-old woman deceased. 

Soon after police arrived on scene, a 19-year-old Stoney Nakoda woman who was driving the vehicle that struck the victim approached police.

The woman was charged with failure to stop after an accident causing death, possession of stolen property under $5,000, driving without a licence and without insurance.

The investigation into the collision continues, however according to police, speed is believed to be a factor and further charges are pending. The press release also stated that alcohol was not a factor in this collision.
