Herald spring with Marley music

This week it’s 30 years since Bob Marley died from a cancer that is mostly curable today.

This beautiful, thoughtful man taught us that justice was a worthy goal, but that it was in no sense a requirement for joy, and that joy was a gift always available to all. The nature around you, the history you learn, and the purpose you find all pulse with the strength of the sweetest philosophy, and when music hits you feel no pain.

It credits us that the great heroes of our time include John Lennon, Muhammad Ali, and this bush boy from a Jamaican hilltop who kept his promise to better the world.

Parents, aunts, uncles and friends are encouraged to play the old records so our children can learn how red is our heart’s passion, gold is our sense of worth, and green the knowledge of our source. Spring is finally here. Let’s herald it with the music from the man who taught us about our power and challenged us all to:

Pick up our sorrows and dance,

Pick up our sufferings and dance,

Pick up our sickness and dance,

Pick up our weakness and dance.

Jeff Caskenette,

Canmore
