On behalf of the Bow Valley cycling community, we extend a huge thanks to Parks Canada for sweeping the Legacy Trail.

Last August the trail saw a peak day use of 550 riders with an average daily use of 162 riders. Once the signs and maps are in place this spring, we are predicting that number will double in 2011.

On Saturday, May 14, from 9 a.m. to noon, cyclists are picking garbage along the whole Legacy Trail.

Everyone is welcome – the only requirement is that all volunteers ride their bikes (leave the vehicles at home). Bring your own green garbage bag and gloves – pick any part of the trail that needs cleaning and go for it.

Please (please) stay off the Trans-Canada Highway. Garbage bags will be collected by cyclists pulling trailers and hauled to central points. Parks Canada has graciously agreed to haul the garbage from those points.

If you love the Legacy Trail – here’s your chance to give back.
