Letter: Addressing climate change will cost taxpayers more

While I'm sure Canmore's new climate change expert is a wonderful person, I find it troubling to read that her first order of business will be to implement a $50,000 study on renewable energy and a smaller study costing $5,000 – to assess the suitability of electric vehicles for the municipality.

One thing that is certain, however, is that Ms. Fournier's 60 identified ways to achieve Canmore's future CO2 targets will result in ever higher spending. In this context, I would encourage Mayor Borrowman and town council to be mindful of already beleaguered taxpayers and carefully weigh the costs and benefits of future initiatives before they are adopted.

Kevin Williams,
