I would like to address a situation that occurred on Saturday night (Nov. 16) at the Canmore Eagles hockey game.

Fans from both sides became unruly and disruptive. After the game ended everyone tunneled through the middle where a physical altercation occurred.

I would like to say: we are a community of many nations and visitors from around the world, our actions speak for our community. How we carry ourselves in public as well as in private should be with dignity and respect.

It’s very important to remind the community young children and visitors are watching how we act.

We as a community should hold ourselves accountable for our behaviour. What I witnessed Saturday evening was embarrassing for our children and our community.

The second point I would like to address is to the Eagles organization. How can this be prevented from happening in the future?

I feel if security was present and able to diffuse the situation before it got out of hand that could have helped. But this is my idea.

I’m sure there’s many other ideas for how this could be prevented, but I would like to see some sort of action in place by the organization.

Thank you for reading my concerns and hope the community understands we have a responsibility to hold ourselves accountable for our actions inside and outside of the home.

We are all raising the children of the next generation. Please remember respect and dignity go a long way.
