I was happy to read in the April 28 Outlook that the tourist home taxation will face changes.

I would like to thank Coun. Joanna McCallum, who brought forward the motion. My thoughts are this is a start, but I don’t think it would be enough. Since the start of the spring, I’ve heard quite a few people being asked to leave their rentals – some after eight years of renting – as the owner has decided to change the rental into an Airbnb as it’s more profitable.

The community is hurting regarding the choice of rentals. What could be rentals are turning into tourist accommodations. I was wondering if council could look into a bylaw that would reduce the number of Airbnb's so minimum wage workers in the hospitality industry and other sectors can find a decent place to live as they are essential for the well functioning of a tourist destination.
