LETTER: Cyclists should obey laws of the road

Editor: I absolutely agree with Nancy Way in her Aug. 4 letter in the Outlook that "keeping cyclists safe should be the No. 1." But eliminating vehicles from the road to make more room is not the answer. I have a better solution. I propose we send all

I absolutely agree with Nancy Way in her Aug. 4 letter in the Outlook that "keeping cyclists safe should be the No. 1." But eliminating vehicles from the road to make more room is not the answer. I have a better solution.

I propose we send all the cyclists back to Grade One to be retrained. I see elementary students obeying the laws of the road and taking their safety seriously. It is only adults that leap off curbs into traffic, go against the lights, ignore red lights, or ride through taped-off sections of construction zones. It is the adults that are so entitled they think they should have right of way and be given carte blanche to go where they want, when they want, ignoring any and all rules of the road.

And then, you all want to complain that not enough is done to protect you? Ride on the road if you like, but follow the actual rules that you learned in Grade One, and you may find yourself feeling a great deal safer on our roads.
