Letter: Different approach to off-leash dog area needed

Instead of restrictions that will require bylaw enforcement and conflict, instead of forcing people to choose other areas to run dogs, instead of treating dog ownership as a crime, perhaps a different approach would work.

Editor:

The proposed restriction to on-leash trails between the two off-leash areas of the meadow and the dog pond is certain to result in conflict and anger.

The Town would be better served to look at the reality of the situation. At present, people walk a loop from the meadow, to the pond and back to the meadow via an open trail near the creek.

If the municipality wishes to restrict wildlife interactions, a more progressive idea would be to fence this whole area – Canmore would have the most amazing off-leash dog park.

Instead of restrictions that will require bylaw enforcement and conflict, instead of forcing people to choose other areas to run dogs, instead of treating dog ownership as a crime, perhaps a different approach would work.

We pay taxes to enjoy our life here. Taking a dog for an unleashed walk is a pleasure.

Perhaps the Town should try thinking beyond rules, try thinking outside the box?
