Letter: Eagles seek billet homes for 2019-20 season

I am writing on behalf of the Canmore Eagles to implore the good people of the Bow Valley. We are in need of billet homes once again. This is nothing new, and nothing has changed.

The board of directors of the Eagles, the staff and volunteers, do an amazing job in running and keeping the team here. The team provides fabulous entertainment and inspiring young hockey players take to the ice every year with their dreams to play at a higher level.

We are asking again for you to open your home and give the billeting a try. Chances are you won’t find it to be as difficult as you think. Ask former billet families and they will tell you it was not that hard and the relationships they have built with the player who stayed in their homes and that player’s family will last a lifetime.

I know a lot of people are thinking they are too busy and won’t be able to provide the necessary home that the player is expecting. Most of the time, these kids come from very busy homes, so they are used to their parents and siblings being busy.

Vicki and I have been billeting for 20 plus years. We have done that while raising our two daughters, running our own businesses, volunteering for our children’s programs and also volunteering for the Eagles hockey team. We survived, and in fact we have built some fantastic relationships with so many families.

The team is proud to be in its 25th year. We are in a great spot with a newly renovated arena, eager and talented players on the ice, but without billet homes we have no team.

I believe in the people of this valley, and I believe there are enough good homes and people who are willing to give billeting a try to keep this team here in Canmore. Please give me a call 403-688-6067

Darryl Lockwood,

Canmore
