I applaud the forward-thinking of the designers of the refreshed Bear Street when they decided to have grade-level pedestrian walkways instead of the more usual above-grade sidewalks we are used to.

It made it much easier for those drivers who didn’t see, or ignored, the closed road sign as they turned onto Bear Street from Wolf Street to turn around and go back to Wolf Street.

Of course, pedestrians had to watch out for cars as they sometimes pulled up right to the front walls of the buildings, but it was only 10 days of inconvenience.
