On Tuesday, Feb. 23, I had the honour of moderating the largest public meeting ever held in the Bow Valley.

Thanks to COVID (how often do you hear that phrase?) the amazing residents of this valley, over 90 per cent of them from Canmore, clicked on a link and spent two hours examining the potential impacts of the proposed Three Sisters Mountain Village.

The magic of technology tells us that 840 devices connected to the Zoom meeting – all those gizmos were watched by individuals or couples or families, bringing our total to well over a thousand attendees!

Over a thousand people. You could have watched Netflix for those two hours, but instead you chose to think hard about the future of our home in the mountains, as you listened to five brilliant experts examining the impact of the proposed development from a number of perspectives (Wildlife. Community. Climate. Water. Financial. Etc.), and asked your thoughtful and incisive questions.

And the incredible level of interest continues: a short made-in-Canmore video about undermining on the TSMV property had 18,000 viewers in the first 24 hours after it was posted on the Three Sisters FOR Wildlife Facebook page!

Type ‘Bow Valley Engage’ into your nearest browser if you missed the event and want to catch the magic - or find out how to speak at the upcoming public hearing - courtesy of some amazing grassroots organizers that I look up to, who have spent many thousands of hours on this issue over the years...

Canmore – you are amazing.  I feel blessed, and privileged, to live in a community where people care so much.

Gareth Thomson,

Canmore
