Editor:

Parks Canada has announced its plans to move the Park & Ride for the Lake Louise and Moraine Lake shuttles to the Lake Louise ski area base this summer. I do not have a strong opinion on this change, but I am strongly opposed to one of the mitigation measures that will come with the move: the complete summer closure of the west side of the Bow River Loop trail from the train station all the way down to the Twin Bridges.

This closure has been announced with almost no public consultation, and will negatively affect our community and quality of life.

For Lake Louise villagers, it's our most popular and accessible local trail and the only easy trail option that can be reached on foot by everyone living in town. No car is needed, no greenhouse gases are emitted when locals head out their doors to enjoy an evening run or walk. It is a beloved and well-used trail, and closing it is completely unacceptable.

If you are a Lake Louisian who wants to continue to enjoy this trail, please raise your voice and write to the Park Superintendent at [email protected].
