Letter: Not convinced letter's sentiments were inappropriate

I am writing in response to the letters written in the previous weeks.

I’m not entirely convinced that Dean Balkenstein and Tiffany Teske's opinions are completely inappropriate, nor do I agree with Gordon Schutlz's desire to publicly shame them as a positive approach to a global crisis.

As I settle into this “current normal,” I find myself asking what is the post-pandemic going to look like?

COVID-19 can offer us many lessons. For me, it presents an opportunity to evaluate our social inequalities on a level playing field.

It also offers a chance to ask our world leaders whom have turned to science as a response to COVID-19, to put the same faith of science into the fight against climate change.

I ask Gordon Schultz, and those that support his views, not to waste time with public shaming. Rather, put that energy into voicing opinions towards improving our global community instead.

Let’s ask government to support people, not corporations, and demand government to be bold when creating our new normal and economy.

This new normal should express innovation, diversification, sustainability, while addressing inequality, health care, education and the climate crisis.

When will you ever get this chance again to make a difference for future generations?

Steve Konik,

Canmore
