LETTER: Not loud enough

From what I understand, the Three Sisters Development is a well-known issue, not only amongst longtime locals, but new residents, weekenders, and tourists alike.

What also seems to be true, on the ground at least, is that most folks, longtime locals, new residents, and weekenders are vehemently against the project.

However, considering this project is still on the table alongside weird faustian bargaining of not-really-affordable housing and “business opportunities” in exchange for habitat destruction and pollution, it seems we have not been loud enough.

So be a little louder. If you have ever caught yourself complaining about the Three Sisters development and have yet to email our town council about your opinion – now is the time.

As a citizen of Canmore, regardless of your level of expertise or length of tenancy, your opinion does matter.

It is exhausting to have to express your non-consent on the same issue over and over, year after year. But that is what many of us have done and our voices are not enough.

New and younger residents need to speak up and make it clear to council that a handful of so-called “affordable” housing units and lower taxes is not worth destroying a wildlife corridor and doubling our greenhouse gas emissions.

From a local kid to all you newbies in town, please send a quick email to our council and tell them wildlife and climate are more important than money.

Naia West,

Canmore
