I found last week’s Rocky Mountain Outlook inspiring. Thanks for that – you did a great job in profiling no fewer than three of our community’s stars: Grant Statham for the Summit of Excellence Award, Carol Picard and Jeff Horvath, who each were awarded the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal.

I am privileged to know all three of these fine folks, and they are giants. Not literally – Carol Picard, bless her, weighs barely 100 pounds soaking wet – but metaphorically.

These people are giants when it comes to their accomplishments, and their work to make our world a better place. And the cool thing is, we who live here in this exceptional place could name dozens of other such figures who use their talents to enrich our lives. What a community.

To paraphrase Odysseus, from the Iliad: If they ever tell my story, let them say I walked with Giants. Let them say I lived in the time of Carol Picard, of Grant Statham, of Jeff Horvath.

Gareth Thomson,

Canmore
