Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020 marked Alberta Health Care Aide Day and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all health care aides publicly and, in particular, all those who work at Mineral Springs Hospital.

This year, more than ever, these caregivers deserve to be recognized for their hard work and dedication to the people they serve, who are some of the most vulnerable.

Care aides give comfort and friendship, laughter and love to all the residents in St. Martha’s place. Not only do care aides provide safe and competent care, but they also take the time to go the extra mile to brighten the day of our residents, who are mothers, fathers, grandparents, brothers and sisters.

During the early part of the pandemic, when a visit from family and friends was restricted, it was the little things health care aides do every day that helped reduce the loneliness of so many residents.

Like many Albertans, reducing their own risk of unknown exposure to COVID-19 has meant sacrifices: not seeing loved ones, not attending large gatherings in their communities, changing travel plans and dealing with loss and issues with families living abroad have all been necessary to protect the people that care aides serve.

We are grateful and proud of their continued efforts to keep our residents safe. The management, staff and physicians give thanks to all the health care aides everywhere.

Lori Thorburn,
Manager of long-term care and Allied Health
Mineral Springs Hospital
