LETTER: Seniors benefit for COVID-19 a waste

Editor:

I am a senior.

I think the upcoming federal government C-19 special payment to seniors is a huge waste of taxpayer dollars.

In early July, every Canadian senior will be sent $300 and those that qualify for the Guaranteed Income Supplement will be sent an additional $200.

According to a recent news article by the Canadian Press, the total amount to be paid is approximately $2.5 billion.

Granted, there are some seniors that desperately need some extra cash, and I can agree to helping those people out.

But the country is already in financial trouble due to all the monetary benefits being handed out by our federal government.

We must immediately stop any needless increases to our national debt.

I am going to return my $300 to CRA. I challenge all seniors, that do not desperately need it, to do the same.
