A couple of months ago, a cultural tragedy hit us: the burning of Notre Dame. It was immediately covered by every news channel in the world and millions of people donated to the cause to show their support.

The Amazon has been burning for three weeks now. Smoke from the fires made entire cities fall into darkness in the middle of the afternoon.

This ecosystem is vital to the health of our planet; it produces 20 per cent of our oxygen and is home to thousands of species. Without its trees to store carbon and emit oxygen, emissions will sky rocket and our climate change problem will only get worse. So why is there no media coverage of this crisis?

As citizens in the Bow Valley, we know nature's value. I urge you to share this information and to sign the petition to express your concern to the Brazilian government so something can be done.

It can be found through a quick Google search of pray for the Amazon. It is not too late to make a difference.

Will you have to tell the next generation that you simply sat back as our only planet suffocated under our weight, or will you be among the people who fight for change every day?

The choice is yours.
