As a member of the executive board on the Energy Council from the State of New Mexico, I extend my thanks and appreciation to the citizens of Alberta and specifically to the citizens of Calgary and Banff for making our meetings productive and welcoming.

The research being conducted at the University of Calgary and the University of Alberta is leading the way for moving toward hydrogen as a commercial fuel source. I and the other legislators involved with the Energy Council found the research and the discussions from several of the professors at those institutions to be very enlightening.

I am hopeful one of the outcomes of the meeting is greater collaboration between our countries to solve complex energy issues. Rest assured, I will use my position and the information gained from our meetings to advance those ties and encourage sharing of ideas and research.

I would be remiss not to specifically recognize your Minister of Energy, the Honourable Pete Guthrie, for his role in making the Energy Council meeting a great success. Alberta is well served by your members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, whose leadership and active involvement in the Energy Council and Legislative Energy Horizons Institute will continue the dialogue and advance the research to find solutions to the complex energy issues both of our nations face and to keep North America at the forefront of innovation and technology. MLA Tracy Allard, MLA Richard Gotfried and MLA Miranda Rosin are those members.

The hospitality of Ms. Rosin is particularly appreciated as we spent several days in her riding learning in a most beautiful setting of Banff. Banff and the surrounding area is well represented by a legislator who truly understands the complexity of energy and how it sustains our health, welfare and way of life. She is concerned about the people and the community she represents.

Ms. Rosin is a knowledgeable and forceful voice and I am a better legislator because of the critical thinking and focus Ms. Rosin brought to the table in our debates on energy policy.

I have 40 years of experience in the oil and gas industry and was amazed your representative was able to grasp complex energy concepts so quickly, concepts that take most people serving in public office years to acquire. She is wise beyond her years. You benefit from her wisdom, knowledge and ability.

Again, thank you for your wonderful hospitality.

Greg Nibert,

New Mexico state representative District 59,

Roswell, New Mexico
