Jim Buckingham fits well to the man who can measure up to knowing at the end of life what matters most: how well we lived life, and how well we loved.

It says a lot about Jim, also known as Bucky and who passed away Feb. 27, that he loved to teach. To do so means you love to continue to learn. And spark possibility in others.

Bucky gave his only ski lesson to me more than 40 years ago. He was skiing by in the soft powder off the Standish headwall, yelling over his shoulder “try relaxing and enjoy it!” or something along those lines. It really helped.

Having known Bucky brings a smile to my heart. How true that every day is “the best day ever”. This is the flame we all can continue to carry. For Bucky, for the community, for living a life well. Thank you, Jim.

Jane Whitney,

Canmore
