When the cull starts, the bunnies are first live trapped and then you will have a chance to rescue them with these provisions:

You will have built escape proof hutches and runs on your property, to properly contain your new pets.

You must agree to have each bunny checked with a veterinarian to assure that it is healthy and disease-free.

You will agree to have each bunny properly fed and well treated and to never release any to run wild because you can no longer care for them. Instead, you must have the authorities collect them to be euthanized or given to the care of another pet owner subject to the above provisions.

I think this is a fair way to appease the bunny lovers. Of course, they probably can’t care for the huge numbers running loose in town, but at least they can save a good number of them.

Be aware that these animals are feral, not wild. They were originally bred for food in Europe and should be regarded much the same as chickens, pigs and cattle.

Unless you are a vegetarian, I doubt that you have the same ‘respect for the life of all creatures’ as you do for the rabbits.
