On behalf of the entire Japanese community in Banff, the Banff Japanese Language School would like to say thank you to all our Bow Valley friends for your great help with our bottle drive fundraiser to benefit Japanese Tohoku earthquake and tsunami victims.

Last Saturday (March 19), over 200 people dropped off bottles and cash donations at the Banff Daycare and 50 volunteers helped sort bottles at both the Daycare and the Bottle Depot.

Other volunteers collected donations on the streets of Banff that afternoon. We could not have pulled this event off in such a short amount of time were it not for the tremendous volunteer help that we received. In total, the people of Banff donated $16,787.82, all of which will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross, along with well wishes from the community.

Between now and March 27, donation boxes will be located at Suginoya Restaurant (225 Banff Ave. above Starbucks), Sushi Bistro (208 Caribou St. in Banff), or Marra’s Way Sushi (#3-637 10th St. in Canmore). The Banff Japanese Language School will hold one last fund raising event on April 16 – more details to come.

All the board members of the Banff Japanese Language School agree that this disaster, while incredibly unfortunate, has at the same time shown us the strength of our community’s connection to the people of Japan. We are so very grateful for your support and kindness!
