BANFF – A driver who threatened another driver with a handgun during a road rage incident in Banff National Park on the weekend is facing charges.
Banff RCMP responded to a road rage complaint of a man who had allegedly pointed a handgun at another driver while driving recklessly on the Trans-Canada Highway around 3:15 p.m. on Saturday (May 13).
Police say investigators searched the suspect’s vehicle and seized a .177 calibre pellet pistol.
“It was an isolated incident and the offender has been charged,” said Sgt. Natalie Rice of Banff RCMP.
Westbound traffic on the Trans-Canada Highway near the Sunshine Road interchange was temporarily shut down while the RCMP apprehended the man. Banff RCMP have charged the 59-year-old from Edgewater, B.C.
He will appear in Canmore court on June 28 to answer to charges including pointing a firearm and using a firearm in the commission of an offence.
