Special weather advisory issued for Banff, Canmore, K-Country

Above normal temperatures Tuesday (April 2) of up to 16 C in the Bow Valley will be quickly followed by a multi-day snow event as a cold front sweeps through Alberta on Wednesday (April 3).

BOW VALLEY –  Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Banff, Lake Louise, Canmore and Kananaskis Country with a significant change in the weather coming this week with up to 30 centimetres of snow possible in the mountain parks.

According to the statement issued on Tuesday (April 2), above normal temperatures Tuesday of up to 16 Celsius in the Bow Valley will be quickly followed by a multi-day snow event as a cold front sweeps through Alberta on Wednesday (April 3).

“Snow will begin overnight along the northern foothills and progress southward on Wednesday,” according to the statement.

“Snowfall will intensify on Thursday, and spread eastward towards the Saskatchewan border. Snow will end on Friday.”

The heaviest snowfall is expected along the foothills and in the mountain parks, where a total of 10 to 30 cm is possible by Friday.

A total of five to 10 cm is expected east of Highway 2 in southern Alberta.
