UPDATE: Police on scene of multi-vehicle collision between Banff, Lake Louise

RCMP asks motorists to avoid the area where there is a collision involving five semi trucks.

LAKE LOUISE –Emergency crews have opened up one eastbound lane of the Trans-Canada Highway following an incident involving five semi trucks early Tuesday morning.

"Flow has resumed," said Cpl. Troy Savinkoff, public information officer with Alberta RCMP.

"Crews remain on scene continuing to tow vehicles. RCMP urge caution when travelling through the area."

LAKE LOUISE – Police are on scene at a crash involving five semi trucks on the Trans-Canada Highway just north of Highway 93 South interchange.

Cpl. Gina Slaney, a public information officer with Alberta RCMP, said the collision is in the eastbound lanes and traffic cannot get through at this time.

“Please avoid the area,” she said.

“An update will be sent when the scene is clear.”

The accident is beneath one of the wildlife overpasses. Traffic is currently getting through in the westbound lane.

In addition, about one to two kilometres east of the scene, a semi-truck jack-knifed and landed in the ditch. There is also a semi-truck flipped on its side in the median on the Trans-Canada Highway just east of the Lake Louise turnoff. 

511Alberta reports there will be delays on the Trans-Canada Highway between Banff and Lake Louise.
