St. Albert RCMP release image of casino armed robbery suspect

Cops seek male suspect who fled in dark-coloured Jeep Cherokee after armed robbery at Century Casino in St. Albert.

The St. Albert RCMP have called on the public to help them catch the man who pulled off a brazen armed robbery of the Century Casino last weekend.

The St. Albert RCMP put out a notice Nov. 13 about an armed robbery that happened the previous afternoon at the Century Casino on Boudreau Road.

Alberta RCMP Media Group spokesperson Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said a man entered the casino’s north entrance at about 3:52 p.m. on Nov. 12. The man produced what appeared to be a handgun and demanded money. He then left the casino with an undisclosed sum of money, entered a dark-coloured and “quite dusty” Jeep Cherokee and fled east past the neighbouring AGLC warehouse.

Savinkoff said no shots were fired during the robbery, and no one was injured. Police were not disclosing the amount of cash stolen as they did not want to advertise the amount of cash carried on hand by the casino.

Armed robberies are relatively rare in St. Albert. The most recent one happened last July when a man with a knife tried to steal shoes from the local Canadian Tire. (He was caught soon afterwards.)

“St. Albert is still a fairly small city, and to have a brazen armed robbery isn’t something you see every day,” Savinkoff said.

RCMP are looking for help to identify the suspect in this robbery, who is described as male, light complexioned, in his 40s, standing 5’5”, and wearing a black mask, black ball cap, black gloves, dark jacket, black hoodie, and blue jeans. Savinkoff said anyone with information on this person should call the St. Albert RCMP at 780-458-7700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Anyone who sees this suspect should call 911 and not approach him, as he may be armed.
