An intoxicated driver was recently nabbed travelling at extreme speeds in Foothills County.
On the evening of June 30, a member of Alberta Sheriff Highway Patrol stopped a motorist north of High River.
In a Twitter post made on July 13, Alberta Sheriffs said the motorist was going 181 km/h in a 110 km/h zone near 466 Avenue.
The driver and passenger were found to be “extremely intoxicated,” and the driver refused to provide a breath sample, the post said.
The driver will be going to court for speeding as well as driving with no insurance, in addition to receiving a 15-month license suspension and 30-day vehicle seizure.
Alberta Sheriffs say law enforcement can ask for a breath sample from any motorist who is lawfully pulled over, regardless of the reason for the stop.
They said nearly 25 per cent of fatal collisions in Alberta involve speeding or travelling too fast for weather or road conditions.
