Diamond Valley Fire Rescue responded to a crash on Hwy. 22 in Diamond Valley on Feb. 29.

A serious accident closed the highway through Diamond Valley on Thursday night.

Diamond Valley Fire Rescue said that a head-on crash between a pickup and a smaller vehicle occurred on Highway 22, between the former towns of Turner Valley and Black Diamond, at about 8:17 p.m. on Feb. 29.

Two occupants of the smaller vehicle, an adult and a child, were trapped when crews arrived and were taken to hospital by EMS, the adult in life threatening condition and the child in serious, but non-life threatening condition.

STARS was unable to assist due to the poor weather at the time of the crash, the fire department said.

The adult driver and lone occupant of the pickup received minor injuries and was also taken to hospital by EMS.

An RCMP crash investigator was called, and the road was closed until about 3:20 a.m.
