Together with Healthy Aging Alberta, the province announced it is providing $2.1 million to expand day-to-day in-home services for seniors across the province.

Some 15 community organizations have now received funding to help them expand their services, the government said in a statement; six grants in July 2022 for projects that are now operating and nine additional grants awarded in June, 2023.

The non-medical services range from social and emotional supports to help with everyday tasks such as housekeeping, yard and snow removal, transportation to and from appointments, and meal delivery.

“ Healthy Aging Alberta acknowledges the shared vision between seniors, community-based senior-serving organizations, the United Way of Calgary, and the Government of Alberta in the continued aim to make Alberta one of the best places to grow older,” said Karen McDonald, provincial director, Healthy Aging Alberta, executive director of Sage Seniors Association and chair of the Healthy Aging Alberta Community Leadership Council.

Lori Sigurdson, Alberta NDP Critic for Seniors Issues, said the funding announcement is a drop in the bucket, especially during the past four years when affordability challenges have significantly impacted the province's most vulnerable population.
