A man pleaded guilty on Monday to forging a signature to steal a family’s passports.

The family — a woman and her two children — expected to receive their passports at a post office in a St. Albert London Drugs.

But someone else got to them first.

Last spring, James Dianocky forged the woman’s signature to pick up the passports at the post office.

CCTV footage showed Dianocky at the post office handing the clerk a delivery notice and the clerk giving Dianocky a package containing the passports.

The offense, section 56.1(1) of the criminal code, carries a maximum sentence of five years.

Dianocky also pleaded guilty to breaking into mailboxes at a St. Albert apartment complex and stealing mail.

Dianocky’s sentencing was postponed until January so the court could obtain a pre-sentence report.
