CANMORE – Police are investigating after an Alberta Health Services vehicle had the air let out of two of its tires.
The Canmore RCMP said in a release investigators believe it was an intentional act “to disable the emergency vehicle.”
The caps to the valve stems were removed and the passenger tires were completed deflated, police said. The vehicle was parked on Spring Creek Drive and it took place between 9-10:45 a.m., according to RCMP.
“Our community relies on the ability of all emergency services to respond promptly to calls for service,” the release stated. “In this case, we are fortunate that no one was put in jeopardy because of this criminal act.”
A Facebook post from the Canmore Fire Fighters Association first mentioned the alleged act, which generated significant amount of scorn from those commenting.
“Well Canmore we are at a new low… Not sure why someone would let the air out of the tires on a Emergency Response Vehicle. #notcool #hopeyourlovedonedoesnotneedus,” the published post stated.
A spokesperson for Alberta Health Services confirmed the vandalization and the vehicle being quickly repaired without any impact to patient care.
“It is disappointing someone would choose to immobilize an emergency vehicle. It is also dangerous. A Paramedic Response Unit is used for rapid response to emergency medical calls and EMS needs to be able to respond quickly at all times.”
