CANMORE – A 25-year-old visitor from Saskatchewan is dead after getting electrocuted in a hot tub at a Canmore vacation rental property on Monday night (Aug. 29).

RCMP is investigating and asking for anyone who may have witnessed the event to contact them.

Canmore-Fire Rescue was first on scene after getting the call at about 9:10 p.m.

“The crew did respond and they were able to disconnect the power so that they could get to the patient,” said fire chief Lance Bushie.

“Then they performed CPR and did everything they could to revive the (patient).”

A spokesperson for EMS confirmed paramedics were called to a property on Kananaskis Way at about 9:30 p.m. on Monday.

“I can confirm that paramedics did transport an adult (person) in life-threatening condition to the Canmore General Hospital,” said Adam Loria, public education officer with EMS.

STARS air ambulance was called from Calgary to rendezvous at the Canmore General Hospital, but was asked to stand down.

Police say the person was pronounced dead at the local hospital.

Canmore RCMP say they are in the early stages of the investigation and not in a position to release any information.

Police say it was reported that a hot tub user in an outdoor common area had been electrocuted.

“If there are any possible witnesses to come forward, that will be very helpful,” said Sgt. Jack Wrobel, who is the officer in charge of operations at Canmore RCMP.

The number to call is 403-678-5519.

The investigation is ongoing.

"Canmore RCMP send their condolences to all affected by this tragedy," stated a news release.
