CANMORE – A 47-year-old woman suffered non-life threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Benchlands Trail early Monday morning (March 4).

A spokesperson for EMS said she was taken to Canmore General Hospital in stable condition.

Walter Gahler, fire chief for Canmore Fire-Rescue, said the accident happened around 8:20 a.m. at the intersection of Benchlands Trail and Palliser Trail.

RCMP Sgt. Stan Andronyk said it appears the vehicle was turning left from Palliser onto Benchlands when it struck the woman who was crossing the road at the crosswalk.

"We do know that the driver had the green light," said Andronyk. "It appears that sun glare might have played a factor in this."

He said the RCMP are still talking to witnesses and no decision has been made as to whether charges will be laid.
